2008 INFORMATION:
Program: This program is designed for adults, and youth aged 14 and over upon recommendation of a music teacher. The program consists of daily classes for amateur and semi-professional participants in movement, voice, musical theatre, and opera/classical music scenes, culminating a student performance on Sunday afternoon for friends, family and the community.
Staff: Professors Cynthia Munzer (http://www.geocities.com/cynthia_munzer/) and
Gary Glaze (http://www.usc.edu/schools/music/private/faculty/glaze.php) from the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California, will provide vocal instruction: Cynthia as vocal coach for the performance class and Gary for the classical/opera scene class. Local staff includes coordinator and vocal coach Hilary Whelton, piano/vocal coaches/accompanists Sharon Wishart and Kathy Harper, Tai-Chi Master Bill Perison, and stage movement and rhythm instructor Kelly Barnum. The team brings a wealth of local and international experience and training to this six-day program offering specialized instruction in vocal warm-ups, structure and technique, daily training in a variety of genres, practical musical theatre and performance skills as well as scene and character development.
Program Schedule:
Daily classes run from 3 pm to 9:30 pm, Monday through Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday (including the final concert). Participants are responsible for their own evening meal (a packed lunch is recommended). Please dress in comfortable clothes.

PVI Main fees are $315 (adults 19+) and $210 (teen 14-18) and include all session materials including evening workshops, non-refundable registration fee, as well as an individual and a class performance. Private lessons are available for $30 per half hour. Early registration is encouraged, as the program requires a minimum enrolment. Bard to Broadway Theatre is pleased to host the following workshops as part of their ongoing arts education programs. Workshops taught by qualified faculty will be held in August at the Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach.
Rhythm & Stomp – Kelly Barnum
Monday, August 4 & Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 4 to 5 pm
In a few simple steps, our dance instructor will help singers find their “inner rhythm” – let the music inform your movement.
Audition Preparation & Techniques – Gary Glaze
Wednesday, August 6, 2008 - 4 to 5 pm
For post-secondary or theatre auditions – choosing repertoire; presentation; managing anxiety.
The Older Singer – Cynthia Munzer

Exercises and techniques to ensure the mature voice ages gracefully.
Opera and History– Michael Chriss

The Male Voice – Gary Glaze

Boy’s changing voice, the rock “scream”; musical theatre and opera – insights from a versatile and experienced MALE teacher.

Monday, July 28 to Saturday, August 2, 2008
Village Theatre, Qualicum Beach, BC
Program: This program is designed for children and youth aged 6 to 14. The program consists of daily classes in choral singing, vocal instruction, imagination and rhythm, musical theatre and dance. On Saturday afternoon a student performance for family and friends will be staged.
Staff: The Bard to Broadway Musical Theatre team is made up of highly qualified and experienced local professional staff led by coordinator and vocal coach Hilary Whelton – vocal director for B2B musicals. Choral Instruction is by Alison Shaw. The always popular imagination and rhythm is led by Bill Perison, and musical theatre instruction and skill development is provided by Thea Stavroff. Dance instruction and stage movement is also provided by a local performer/teacher.
Program Schedule: Classes run from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday (including the student performance). Participants are responsible for their own noon meal (a packed lunch is recommended). Comfortable clothes and shoes should be worn.

Teen Musical Theatre (TMT)...

2008 INFORMATION:
Program: This program, designed for youth aged 13 to 19, is a comprehensive three-week program with daily instruction in individual and ensemble vocal performance, acting, scene work, and dance. On the final weekend, there will be three performances of the well-known Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Pirates of Penzance for family, friends and the public. A half-time Technical Theatre program for those interested in the technical side of production, including lighting design and set-up, sound, and stagecraft is also offered.
Staff: The B2B Musical Theatre Team is made up of highly qualified and experienced local and regional professional performing arts teachers and directors. Dean Chadwick, an experienced B2B performer and director (director of this summer’s show Leading Ladies), will be the director. Kelly Barnum, B2B director (You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown), stage manager and dance captain will be assistant director and choreographer. Hilary Whelton, vocal director for B2B musicals will be the vocal director, assisted by Alison Shaw. Well known local children’s theatre instructor, Thea Stavroff will handle production management.
Program Schedule: Classes run from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday with performances on Saturday (afternoon and evening), August 16 and Sunday, August 17 (afternoon). Participants are responsible for their own noon meal (a packed lunch is recommended). Comfortable clothes and shoes are to be worn. Week 1 will be at the Chrysler Theatre in the Parksville Community and Conference Centre. Weeks 2 & 3, including the performances, will be in the Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach.
