THE STORY: Have you ever been tempted to flee your own life? Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a middling marriage — with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one night a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky works. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life…and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun in a way that most plays wouldn't dare. BECKY'S NEW CAR is a thoroughly original comedy with serious overtones, a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken.
"When a woman says she needs new shoes, what she really wants is a new job. When she says she wants a new house, she wants a new husband. And when she says she wants a new car, she wants a new life." (The philosophy of Becky’s best friend).
"Have you ever really been as happy in your garden as you’ve been on a good day in your car?" (One of Becky’s reflective musings.)
Rebecca Foster (Becky) – late 40s; charming personality; office manager at a car dealership; model wife and mother; conventional and cautious; a bit bored with her life.
Joe Foster – Becky’s trusting husband; late 40s; hardworking roofer; perhaps a bit naïve.
Chris Foster – mid 20s; Becky and Joe’s son; psychology graduate student (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing); self-centered but still sensitive.
Walter Flood – early 60s; Widower; Extremely wealthy businessman; lonely and lacking in day-to-day commonsense (his wife dressed him and kept him organized).
Kensington Flood (Kenni) – early 20s; Walter’s daughter; a bit spoiled, manipulative and self-centered; protective of her dad.
Steve - 50s; widower; car salesman where Becky works; competitive and somewhat suspicious.
Ginger – 50s; high society woman whose inherited wealth has been squandered and now has to make her way; a bit scheming but a decent sort.
